Jaguar Journey Recap and Bike Safety

Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped at various stations during Jaguar Journey!  Your help and support makes events like this possible for all students.  Our students were able to navigate through many stations during our first days of school.  Locks and lockers were issued.  Chromebooks were issued.  School supplies & school spirit shirts were issued. Students learned how to navigate the school campus and who to seek support from when encountering an issue.  Students also learned and reviewed bike safety and how to navigate safely to school.  Parents and guardians, please review this information from the CIty of Palo Alto as follow up to our bike safety unit.

Challenge Day for 8th Grade - Mon, Sept 8, Mon, Sept 22, and Mon, Oct 13 Include what groups of students are going when, preview upcoming permission slip, post Volunteer form

This year, all 8th-grade students at Greene Middle School will participate in Challenge Day, an incredible program that helps young people connect with their peers and build a more compassionate community. This full-day, interactive experience provides students and adults with tools to break down social barriers and create an environment of acceptance, love, and respect.

To participate, students must have a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian. Please keep an eye on ParentSquare for a digital permission slip that will be sent out in the coming days.

Here are the participation dates, based on your student’s science class:

  • September 8: Students in Goldsworthy's classes (Periods 3, 4, and 5)

  • September 22: Students in Garrison's class (Period 2) and Fields' classes (Periods 6 and 7)

  • October 13: Students in Warr's classes (Periods 1, 3, 5, and 7)

We Need Parent Volunteers!

We are also looking for parent volunteers to join us for Challenge Day. This is a powerful way to interact with students and make a positive impact on their lives.

iReady Testing (Monday, August 25th - Friday, September 12th)

Over the next three weeks, students will be taking the iReady diagnostic assessment in reading. This assessment serves as a universal screener and provides valuable information to help teachers identify students’ needs, personalize instruction, and monitor growth throughout the year. Please make sure they bring their Chromebook to school each day, fully charged.

Homework Habitat Opens on Monday, August 25th!

Greene Middle School offers an after-school homework study center known as Homework Habitat.  Homework Habitat is open immediately after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesday until 4:45pm.  Teachers and tutors are available to assist students with their work, and a light snack will be served.

To join Homework Habitat, students must have a completed permission slip indicating parent/guardian permission to stay after school to attend Homework Habitat.  Please click on the link below for more information and the permission form to join Homework Habitat.  Return all completed permission forms to the front office.

General Reminders:

  • Families, please help remind your students to practice bike safety including wearing their helmets properly, and securing (locking) their bikes upon arrival at school.  Our bike cages are only locked during school hours.  They remain open in the evening and overnight.  Please do not leave an unsecured bike in the bike cage overnight.

  • Chromebooks have been issued to students on a 1:1 basis.  Each child is expected to bring their chromebook charged to school each day.

  • Engage in best practices during pick up and drop off (both parking lots - N. California and Middlefield).  Do not drop off or pick up students in the middle of the street.  It is best to set up a regular meeting spot a block or two away from campus to avoid heavy traffic.

  • Outside food deliveries (such as door dash, uber eats, etc.) will not be accepted in the front office.  Please plan ahead and have your child bring lunch from home or pick up a school lunch.

Thank you for your continued partnership.

Warmly,

Courtney Carlomagno, Greene Principal, ccarlomagno@pausd.org
