Upcoming: Be Sensitive, Be Brave Training
Dear Greene Middle School Families,
In August’s Superintendent Update, we shared information about our district's mental health and suicide prevention initiative for this school year. We are committed to making sure every student feels supported, safe, and connected, and we want to share what this will look like for students at Greene Middle School.
All middle schools are implementing Be Sensitive, Be Brave (BSBB) for Suicide Prevention, using a curriculum designed specifically for middle school students. Through this program, students learn to recognize warning signs of distress and approach friends with care. We emphasize to students that they are never expected to handle heavy situations on their own. Their role is simply to be a caring friend and connect peers to a trusted adult.
This 2-hour training will be split over two days. Students will be in small groups and sessions will be led by district elementary and middle school psychologists and therapists, with our school counselors on hand for ongoing support. To ensure a shared language of care across our entire campus, all Greene Middle School teachers and staff will complete their training on October 2, and student sessions will run from October through March.
Family Info Session: September 28 | 6:00 - 6:45 PM Zoom Link
Next Monday, we invite you to join a virtual information session led by BSBB developer, Dr. Joyce Chu. Dr. Chu will walk through the curriculum, answer questions, and explain how the program is tailored for young teens. Questions? Email: training@communityconnections.net
Student workbooks are available to view in our main office. Building a safe campus is a shared community effort, and we encourage full student participation. However, if you would prefer your child not to participate, you may submit this Opt-Out Form by 9/30.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a community of care and support for our students.
Warmly,
Courtney Carlomagno
