Principal Communication 10/28/20

Hello Greene Families!

Communication Regarding ReOpening

The next few months will be full of reopening planning. As secondary principals, we are committed to communicating our plans when they are settled. Here are the various ways in which we will be communicating with parents, students and the community:

  • Board of Education meetings and minutes

  • Weekly Superintendent Reports

    • In case you missed it, here is PAUSD's Superintendent Update from October 23. There is a lot of information coming out all the time.

  • Secondary Principals' Bi-Weekly Community Email (Wednesdays)

  • Friday Principals' Coffees (via zoom)

  • Greene Screen segments (for students)

Attendance

Your child's attendance is important. California Senate Bill 98 was signed into law by Governor Newsom in June 2020, resulting in additions to the California Education Code (the collection of California laws governing California public schools). The new laws governing attendance during distance learning are on the PAUSD "Return To Campus" FAQ web page, paragraphs 22 and 23. Specifically, the new law says: "Each (school district) shall document daily participation for each pupil on each school day, in whole or in part, for which distance learning is provided. A pupil who does not participate in distance learning on a school day shall be documented as absent for that school day."

6th Grade Parent Network Thursday, October 29 @ 6:30pm

Our third parent network meeting will be taking place this Thursday evening, October 29 at 6:30pm. Our PTA and Parent Network representatives are facilitating a conversation with 6th grade parents regarding standards-based grading. We will also have time for our 6th grade counselor, Susan Curry, and our 6th grade Assistant Principal, Mimi Kwon, to address parent questions.

We recognize that at times there can be a lot of information that is sent out to families. However, in order to focus on the most pertinent information, I will be returning to sending Greene's community-wide messages out weekly. Look for our next message on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.

Take care,

Dr. Valerie Royaltey-Quandt,

Greene Middle School Principal, vroyalteyquandt@pausd.org
